How long is a red wine drinkable after being uncorked if stored in the bottle? How long before it oxidizes and begin to taste bad?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It depends on the wine and how much is gone from the bottle. Dryer wines can go sometimes 2-3 weeks, as evidenced on in the forum post in my source below. Sweeter wines will oxidize more quickly because of the sugar content. Many serious wine buffs will either top one bottle off with another so there is no oxygen in the bottle, or use an air pump or vacuum compression system to get all the air out. I mean, if what you're drinking is $300 a bottle, it would be worth to try to keep every drop of it drinkable! Even at $25 a bottle, that makes sense, if you are drinking a some frequently.

Here what experts have to say below:
