How long does it take to get a tax refund back from the government?
Will it take months? Weeks? Days?

The first question people generally ask is, "How much is my Tax Refund?" The next question usually is, "How fast can I get it?"
How fast you can get it depends on what option you choose to receive it. When debating between direct deposit and paper check, direct deposit is faster, about a week faster.
But depending on where you go - you could get it faster. HR Block offers Rapid Refund. You can choose to get it within a day, or within 3 days. Of course, they do charge you. In my opinion - if I am getting a big refund, I am opting for the rapid - as fast as I can! Its kind of like a loan, they give you the amount that your refund will be - minus fees - and it will get put into either your bank account, paper check or via the HR Block Prepaid Emerald Card. The Emerald Card is just like a bank card. You can put money on it and use it for direct deposit even after tax season is done. You have to be approved to get the rapid refund. I have never seen or heard of someone being denied. Another thing to note - not all bank accounts are eligible for direct deposit. I have encountered that myself. No biggie, I opted for rapid refund on the Emerald Card. LOL
Below is the 2010 schedule I found online that shows that transmitted by date, when its sent out-depending on which option you choose. Note-the table does not take in account the tax deadline, so you should always make sure you file by the deadline. The 2011 schedule should be just about the same.
You can also elect to track your refund by going to the IRS refund status website: https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp It asks some questions about your taxes filed and will give you the info -providing you are who you say you are.
