How long do you have after a US Patent is awarded to file an international patent?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It's one year from the date you filed your US patent application (NOT the date the patent was awarded). You can also get some extra time by filing an International Application under The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). You will still have to file the actual international patent applications for the coujtries where you intend to file, but the PCT filing gives you 30 months to do so instead of just 12.

Also have a look at UN's World Intellectual Property Organization. http://www.wipo.int
WIPO promotes collaboration between states about IP (Intellectual Property) such as patents, inventions, trademarks etc. The good thing is that if you file for a patent under WIPO it will be accepted by all 184(!) member states. Somewhat easier than applying to individual countries.
