According to the US Senate website (http://www.senate.gov/general/common/generic/officer_responsiblities.htm ) Senate majority and minority leaders are elected by their respective caucuses, customarily for a two year term. However, there do not appear to be term limits, so the same senator could remain as majority leader as long as (1) s/he remained a senator, (2) her/his party retained the majority in the US Senate, and (3) her/his caucus felt s/he was doing a good job.
