The March of Dimes says that preeclampsia is more common during a first pregnancy but also states that "Women who have had preeclampsia are more susceptible to developing it again in another pregnancy. The earlier in pregnancy a woman develops preeclampsia, the higher her risk appears to be in another pregnancy. "
Other factors preeclampsia include chronic hypertension, blood clotting disorders, diabetes, kidney disease, lupus, a family history of relatives that had preeclampsia during pregnancies, being obese, pregnancy with twins or multiples and being younger than 20 or older than 40.
