The Syrian Catholic Church is an church which is independent of both the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic churches, a state in which it has been since the completion of the Chalcedon Council in 421 CE. Its split with the other churches was because it did not believe in the dogma developed by the council, namely that Christ had two natures, both divine and human. The Syrian Orthodox church holds that Christ has one incarnate nature derived from divine and human sources.
Besides this fundamental difference, the Syrian Church also differs from the Roman Catholic church on other issues:
1. It has its own bible in Aramaic, a language which Jesus spoke, albeit in a form that has changed somewhat over time. Its liturgy is also expressed in Aramaic
2. It is expressed within a Semitic culture, the culture of Christ
3. Its liturgy is the most ancient, as it was the second apostolic church derived after Christ's death
4. They have a more mystical interpretation of Jesus' words and intentions, which is an offshoot of the more poetic nature of the Aramaic language vs. the rational basis of the Greek language.
The drawing shown below shows the three wise men riding horses, not camels, and the Syrian Church believes that they came from Mesopotamia and not Arabia.

"The Syrian Catholic Patriarch always takes the name Ignatius in addition to another name. Although Syrian Catholic priests were bound to celibacy at the Synod of Sharfeh in 1888, there are now a number of married priests. A patriarchal seminary and printing house are located at Sharfeh Monastery in Lebanon."
