How is the Statue of Liberty Play carried out?
The Statue of Liberty is a play that is known as a trick play in football and I know that Boise State actually used it, or a variation of it to beat Oklahoma a few years ago when they were first coming onto the stage as a national contender but can someone describe exactly how the play is run and why when it is run correctly, it is so effective in beating opponents?

From my 30 years of watching football at all levels, the Statue of Liberty play can be quite effective when done correctly. The quarterback drops back with both hands on the football and puts the football in his non throwing hand behind his back and makes a passing motion with his throwing hand. Another player, running back or receiver will take the ball from the quarterbacks non throwing hand and run in the opposite direction of where the quarterback faked the throw. If the play is done correctly the quarterback will resemble the Statue of Liberty, one arm raised (throwing arm), one hand at the side (non throwing arm with the ball). In the video you provided the play was executed very well, resulting in the winning two point conversion. I rarely see that play anymore and is another reason it can be successful, the element of surprise.
