How is the JOB market in your field or industry?? Is it getting better? or worse? Do you seen any opportunities opening up?

Trying to check the temperature of the market at the moment and see how folks are doing in this current economy.
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Okies in Indiana, the job market in my husband's industry is very open and they are hiring all the time. He is in manufacturing (supervisory/management position). The problem is, people are sitting around on unemployment and the good people worth hiring are not applying for jobs here. They still have unemployment and are waiting for it to run out. You have to go through a temp agency to get most manufacturing jobs in Indiana.

The problem is, qualified folks or people who will do the job are unwilling to accept under $22 an hour and they hire in at about $12 until you work your way up the ladder. For our average cost of living, that is not terrible, but most people want way more than most folks will hire in at. My hubby is working overtime on Saturdays and Sundays as well as extra hours during the week due to the fact that they have a high loser turnover rate. By loser I mean folks hoping that they can sit around and text all day long.

Ugh it sucks. I just finished school for my Medical Receptionist Certification and there is nothing. They keep hiring people with BAs and stuff...but not people who will stick around and have a certification for that specific job...drives me nuts!
Unemployment doesn't pay the bills and who know show long I can have an extension...

Since my market is freelance writing, I've seen a drop in business and have lowered fees for existing clients to help them out. The harsh economy has slowed their business as well.

Lowering fees for existing clients has led to more inquiries, though, as clients have recommended me to their business contacts. Things might be picking up during the next two months!

Lay offs in education haven't been as deep as one might think, in my area. Laws are fairly inflexible when it comes to student/adult ratios. Cuts have been made in a few State programs, and city employees have required furlough days, without pay of course.
