How is Mahalo better/different than ChaCha?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

ChaCha requires people answering questions to be employees of ChaCha. They have to be screened and go through an online training program. ChaCha people answer questions as they come in. They have research tools and also previously used answers to similar questions.
Mahalo is purely crowd sourced. Anyone can create a Mahalo account and start answering questions in about 10 minutes or less. With Mahalo you may get people who really have no idea about a topic posting back to you but you may get experts also. The tipping system will tend to cause good answers to come up for higher tips.
There is a direct incentive to answer a question well on Mahalo compared to ChaCha where the person working for ChaCha gets basically the same amount of money for each question they answer. This may lead them to just answer questions as quickly as they can without a ton of thought going into the topic. Whereas with Mahalo the person asking the question chooses who to give the tip to. Direct reward.
-My opinion - Mahalo is way better as it is more based on a true Market system. If you want a good answer, your fork over a good tip. If you want just any answer put a smaller tip out and be patient. Money Talks

I have several friends who worked for ChaCha. I looked into it at one point.
