How is it that "adult services" can be advertised on craigslist, other sites, and in newspapers when prostitution is illegal?
I'm sure you've seen such ads before. I guess they were in newspapers for a long time (at least in the movie "Risky Business" they were).
I first noticed them in craigslist. They tend to get flagged a lot, but they're there.
How is this legal, when everyone knows there will be (at least what I consider to be) prostitution happening?

The law states that prostitution is the act of paying for sexual activities. Escorts are paid to accompany someone to an event. No sex is supposed to be part of the deal, and I believe is part of the contract. Other adult services such as stripping, massage parlors, lap dances, etc are not prostitution because there is no sex as part of the service. That doesn't mean I agree with craigslist, and other forms of advertising that allow this kind of advertising, but it is not technically breaking the law.

If you've ever made an inquiry into an escort service, you'll find that the rates are exorbitant, from 200-400 an hour, to start. It's pretty clear, to me, that something else beyond just companionship is expected. If you've ever seen the ads, it's pretty clear too.
