Monsoon is very-very important for hydroelectric power generation in India. This is because unlike some major rivers like The Ganges, The Yamuna and The Brahmaputra; the other main rivers of India do not originate from glaciers. These rivers are originated from natural lakes of fountains and had the monsoon been not there, they would have dried up permanently by now. The rains of monsoon replenish the water each year and relive these rivers, thus contributing greatly to the volume of water in them and so the hydroelectric power generation. In monsoon, the dams (reservoirs) fed by these rivers or otherwise are filled with water which last until the next monsoon arrives. It is from on reservoirs or dams the hydroelectricity is generated.
Even for the rivers fed by the glaciers, monsoon is important because it helps maintain the water level of these rivers and the dams built on them, during dry seasons. Here are some citations;

They show that monsoon is very important for hydroelectric power generation in India. The better the rains in monsoon, the better is the hydroelectricity generation and vice-versa.
Thanks

If a moosoon skip a cycle, what would happen to hydro power in India?
Obviously, the hydro power would suffer heavily. There have been numerous such instances in the past when many states suffered daily power-cuts due to non-availability of power as monsoon did not come up to the expectations.
It is simple as this: no monsoon > no water in rivers and dams > no turbines running > no hydro-electricity
Hope that answers. Thanks
