How is Google Buzz different from Wave?

Google's new product Google Buzz is available right now for some lucky folks in Gmail.

A lot of people are thinking it's just like Wave, but integrated with Gmail.

Are they right? How is Google Buzz different from Wave?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The main difference is that Google Buzz is centered around identity whereas Google Wave is centered around a topic or 'wave' if you will. Also, Google Wave is much more robust than Buzz. Some examples are real time collaboration, playback of waves, continuity of discussion, and overall versatility (examples would include ability in Wave to embed widgets, polls, robots, etc.).

Google Buzz is basically a Facebook/Twitter combination.

It has a clearly defined purpose. Wave is a framework for sharing any content, but without guidance people don't know how to use it effectively. On the other hand, Buzz has been launched as a social tool - which users have enough experience of to know exactly how to utilise it.

According to techcrunch.com, "Google Buzz is a social network and sharing product built by Google. Based within Google Profiles, Buzz offers a stream of status updates, pictures, links, and videos from your friends." while "Google Wave is a tool for communication and collaboration on the web, users create and invite other people to “waves”. Everyone on a wave can use richly formatted text, photos, gadgets,....."
