If I understand what you're looking for . . . in the beginning of the Hobbit Bilbo is just a regular old Hobbit who enjoys simple things food, drink, and a smoke and wants NO part of any adventures. All that changes when Gandalf and a bunch of Dwarves come knocking at Bag End.
Bilbo gains in the end, The Ring. He really has the time of his life on his adventure and loves all the new friends he met and the places he's seen.
