Hey :D

Well, Anime is not really different from animation. Rather, anime is a form of animation. It does differ from other forms of animation though. Anime refers to animation originating from Japan.

The main difference between anime and other forms of animation is the visual style. Anime is considered as an art form. The proportion of the bodies, the eyes and facial expressions (exaggerated!) are often very different and artistic. Most Japanese anime feature characters with large eyes out of proportion to their faces.

Also, quality is a major factor. Anime is considered as a form of limited animation. The frames in the cartoons are not redrawn; rather they are reused as many times as necessary! For example, imagine a room with a character in it. The character may move from the sofa to the floor (because new frames are used), but the room remains the same (as the frame used is the same old one). This helps save time and money. Most American cartoons don’t feature this technique, so their quality is better as new frames are used. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that all Japanese animes are of bad quality and all American cartoons are of good quality.
