What is the most common way to make Angel Food Cake?
Angel food cake is my favorite cake ever! I'm not a big chocolate fan, and I don't like the dry, heaviness of a regular vanilla cake. Angel food is perfect because it is light, just sweet enough, and you can put strawberry toppings on it! I like to have angel food cake for my birthdays, but my mom doesn't like to make it anymore. She usually sticks to cake mixes, which is fine, but I miss angel food. How do I go about making this? Do I start with all my own ingredients from scratch? Or is there an easy mix for angel food cake? If I use a mix, I would still want it to be good quality. What are your experiences with angel food cake mixes? Would you recommend starting from scratch?
Once I decide which I would prefer, how do I go about baking this? Is there a certain pan I'll have to buy? How do I cook it so that it stays fluffy and light? Thanks!

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The trick to the angel food cake is to get the eggs whites fluffy because if you don't, the cake will fall. The recipe on the How to Make Angel Food Cake page is very similar to the one my mom used to make. I don't know how a mix would work, it would mean the egg white part is combined i a package mix which probably would not be as light and airy. My mom always cooled hers wiht the pan hanging upside down on a coke bottle. You need it to cool completely before you remove from the pan. The pan would be a tube pan. You can use a springform type tube pan but it is not necessary to have that kind.
