How important is your hair to you? Would you be willing to go bald for a good cause?

One of my dear friends is going through chemo. She lost alot of hair and was balding terribly, so she decided to shave it. Her family wanted to support her and decided to shave their heads to make it easier.

How important is hair to you? Would you be ok shaving your head bald to support someone?

My heart goes out to your friend. I do wish her the best and hope the chemo does her good. I know you are a goodhearted person and will help your friend. She will need a great deal of support during this time. I would definitely shave my head to help support a love one during their time of need.

When I was 16 years old I became extremely ill. I went to three different doctors and 4 different hospitals during the course of 6 months before I was finally diagnosed and received proper treatment. I honestly thought I was going to die. Many days I couldn't even get out of bed. It was a doctor with Kosair at Louisville that finally figured out I had Still's Disease, a rare disease. I lost a great deal of my hair from extended illness and the medication I took. I was very unhappy about losing my hair, but I was more sadden (severely depressed really) that my so called school friends didn't even bother to check on me during my withdrawal from school. So again, yes I'd be willing to do anything to show the people I love how much I support them during their illness.

Of course I would do just about anything for a good cause. Baldness in this case is temporary, the reasons for good causes (cancer, etc) often unfortunately are not.

I would certainly shave my head bald to support something close to me or my family. Sorry to hear of your friend's chemo, my best to her.

That is soooooo sweet!

Before reading commentary on your question my first response "My hair is very important to me, it is a part of my personality. No I wouldn't shave it, I like my hair, especially today, it's so nice and soft".

But after reading commentary I think I would shave it to support a friend. Though I do have this big dent at the crest...mmm...I must wear a hat then. :o)

On an off note, the second to last time I cut my hair, I had cut 12" off to donate. My husband was not very happy with that. I would really like to see my hair really short...though it would take a long time to see it long again.

This is a great question. It actually made me think. My hair means alot to me and is something I enjoy doing every day. I take pride in the way my hair looks and feel like in some ways it is a reflection of me. I have thought long and hard about this question because I want to give a truthful answer.

If someone dear to my heart was going through chemo, I would absolutely cut every inch of my hair off to support them. I would have fun with being bald and make the best of it. If the loved one was a woman, I would take her wig shopping and we would pick out a wig together. I would also take her to get pretty scarves or head wraps. If the loved one was a guy, I would embrace the baldness, if that was what he was doing. I would not cover my head at all. If the loved one was a woman who did not feel well enough to get a wig or even a scarf, again I would embrace the baldness.

This question really made me think how unimportant my hair would be if someone needed my support.

First of al your question is really very gentle and good.
My answer would be like this,

If you ask me about my hair's importance to me I will say i love them alot
recently my hair started falling and i immediately started hair therapy for that.

but when it comes to a situation where balding your head is to make someone
critical feel comfortable and happy i would be ready to shave my head .as it is
going to make a family member comfortable and at least for some time only
but i will divert her mind from thinking about baldness and her problem.

not just me everyone should do that.

I want to sit here and say Hell Yea! Lets go! My hair goes to my butt, I can give a lot to locks of love...... But I want to be honest. I feel for anyone who has to go thru this. I have a friend now going thru breast cancer- again. She lost all her hair once. She was beautiful without it. But I would not be able to look at myself the same way. You can call me vain, but I am just not that confident to do that right now. If I had to go thru chemo though, that may be a different story. Simply because I would not want to watch it fall out, I too would shave it off. But then buy a bunch of wigs and wear them. I would have wigs like Nicki Minaj. Crazy out there colors and cuts that I am not brave enough to pull off with my own hair.

So, thats my answer.
