How important is screen placement for views? Timing? Tip? I just asked a high tipped question that does not appear on the front page?

This question appears if you click to reveal more questions under the highest tipped area.

http://www.mahalo.com/answers/could-mahalo-be-a-good-place-for-fiction-contests-does-the-tos-work-well-for-fiction-writers-what-is-a-good-short-story-length

Would I have been better off not offering a tip and let it sit in the new questions area and hope that it got voted up?

Do you think putting it up at a busy time is important for views, and if so would that be more or less important than the tip?
Tip for best answer: M$0.12
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Its funny because I just noticed that your "quick fiction request" question wasn't on the answers homepage, so I went to your profile to vote it interesting. Now that I'm here I'll give you an answer to something I view as a problem.

I think votes are the most important part of getting your question answered. I got quite a few votes for pretty much the same question (even said i was ripping you off) and without those votes that question would not be found today. Its ironic because I expected your higher tip question to blow mine out of the water. (are you proud that i used the word "ironic" in the right way?! I just learned the real definition to it.)

As far as the tip, if you would have offered two more dollars it would have probably gotten on the "Highest tip" section, so I'm gonna say letting it sit in the new questions area is a bad idea. It will just get bumped out in a few hours, and even a question with a lot of votes is not worth answering to some if there isn't a decent tip attached to it. Votes don't really make me want to answer a question, but it assures that I see it.

I was thinking last night that a lot of interesting questions fall through the cracks and I came up with an idea that is quite brilliant if i must say so myself. Every week or so I'm gonna start posting a question where the object is to answer the other questions I found interesting that haven't gotten an answer. Then if you answer a bunch or all of them, you'll get the BA to my question, and a chance at the others. Win win.
