Geography is very important to our culture today and that is why it is learned in school. Some individuals underestimate the importance of geography as a discipline but behind the historical trends and events that define nations, there are other forces present. As an example, the poor soils along the Mediterranean coasts combined with a dry climate spurred the ancient Greek and Roman expeditions of conquest to a degree. This means that the survival of people and states often are controlled by the climate and the geography of the lands where they live. The opposite is true if the pressures of living in a cold weather are considered and their impact on the migrations of human beings to warmer locations. For an opinion on this topic check this link:
