How hot is the sun?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Temperature of surface (effective) = 5,778 Kelvin
Temperature of corona = ~5 × 10^6 K (5,000,000 Kelvin)
Temperature of core = ~15.7 × 10^6 K (15,700,000 Kelvin)

If you want some more intersting facts about the sun then take a look at this page by nasa: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/factsheet/sunfact.html

I thought I should add some information about converting from Kelvin to the temperature system of your choice:

From Kelvin to...
Celsius °C = K − 273.15
Fahrenheit °F = K × 9⁄5 − 459.67
Rankine °R = K × 9⁄5

For temperature intervals rather than specific temperatures,
1 K = 1 °C = 1.8 °F = 1.8 °R
