How does Viagra work?

The trick is Vasodilatation. This means the gating blood vessels are dilated and this enables blood flow into the spongy tissues of the Penis. Drugs like Viagra maintain this by blocking PDE which is mopping up the cyclic-GMP that caused the vasodilation in the first place.
There are three drugs that have been in use for over a decade for this purpose:
Viagra - Sildenafil,
Cialis - Tadalafil,
Levitra - Vardenafil
They have slightly different times that they take to start acting and duration of the effect.
Viagra starts about 30 minutes after ingestion and lasts 4-6 hours.
