Actually the electrical current used in welding is DC which is allot safer than the standard AC current used in homes and has low risk of death. Most danger is caused by diving at deep depths and decompression. Unlike standard diving you are connected to a hose in which falling objects such as a piece of metal cut cut or nick your hose proving to be fatal.

It works the same way as above water welding. It is manual metal arc welding using special waterproof electrodes. It can be dangerous work, because of the danger of electric shock, and possible explosion if the bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen formed accumulate in the work area.
