How does the type of film used in a camera affect the final outcome of the photo?
Do professional photographers always develop their own film? Do hobby stores carry photography supplies?

Film cameras and the use of film in photography are rapidly disappearing. Some professionals still use film, however they have always tended to use slide film and with the disappearance of Kodachrome and other transparency films from manufacturing this trend will escalate. That said the choice of film dramatically impacts the photographic image.
Films are available in two types, monochrome and color. Each type has two categories; slide or transparency film and negative film. Films with higher ISO ratings are more sensitive to light. However they are also grainier and show more artifacts. Typically photographers use low ISO films with cameras on a tripod to capture scenes and portraits. They use faster or high ISO films for sports and animal photography to be able to freeze action and not depend on a flash.
