How does the retina display function work on the new iPod Touch that is coming out?

Steve Jobs announced during his special event today (9/1/2010) that Apple is introducing a number of new products including the new iPod Touch with retina display. How does it work and what advantage to the iPod Touch does it give us?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The retina display on the new iPod touch is an amazing feature. Due to the small screen of the iPod touch it was not so easy to view small images or read small sized text on web pages, books and email. But with the retina display, you can now view every single letter without straining a single muscle in your eye. Just by passing the retina on the word or image you want to view, it would just pop off to the screen of your iTouch and you can read every single letter and view the images very clearly.

This is possible because the pixel density of the Retina display is so high and makes every text and graphic look smooth, sharper and continuous at all sizes.

If you want to see how this feature works, go to this Apple page (http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/retina-display.html) and pass your mouse over the iTouch image on the screen. The circle on the image that moves with your mouse is the retina display.

The Apple special event by Steve Jobs, have a lot of surprises, among which he introduced is the new iPod Touch with the Retina display. This latest feature of the iPod touch lets you view image in crystal clear pixel images, thereby permits users to view apps and video games at a much improved user experience, in terms of gaming.

With at least close to 2 billion games available at the App Store, the iPod Touch has truly become a more attractive platform for gamers beating competitors such as Nintendo and Sony in terms of the mobile video game pie. Furthermore, this portable device is much thinner than the iPhone 4, runs iOS 4.1 and bundled with Apple's Game Center, users have a complete package.

Accordingly, "the iPod touch also now sports a front-facing VGA camera, making it the second of Apple's devices with support for its FaceTime video-chattingtechnology for chatting with both other iPod touch owners and iPhone 4 owners."
