The geography of the world affects the current recession because of regional realities. As an example, parts of Europe have a radically different geography, thus the economic models of the Europeans nations are diverse. The United Kingdom, with few immediate security threats and controlling rivers and ports, has an adapted laissez-faire system. France has not much access to riverine commercial lines thus is a somewhat self-contained world, making of economic nationalism its motto. In Germany the river lines connect the country with other states. Same happens with the nations of Eastern Europe. If the economy is not working well the productive and transport capacities of these states are underused and, sometimes, their isolation or lack of open connections to oceanic routes makes it difficult to establish new and beneficial links with nations located far beyond their borders.
