Herpes is spread by direct skin-to-skin contact with someone who is infected. You can get herpes from someone who has sores on his or her lips, skin or genitals. But, most of the time, herpes is spread when someone does not have any signs or symptoms. The herpes virus can still rub off a person's skin even when he or she has no sores that you can see.

Hi kingpin!

The herpes virus is a contagious virus caused by two different virus types, herpes simplex 1 and herpes simplex 2. Genital herpes is usually caused by the herpes simplex 2 virus and the common mouth herpes is usually herpes simplex 1 but this is not always the case.

Herpes is only spread when a herpes blister is developing and/or present. The fluids from a herpes blister is the contaminated contagious part to be aware of, when avoiding catching herpes.

Over 500,000 Americans are diagnosed with a type of herpes simplex each year, in the US and there are higher numbers of people diagnosed in other countries. Most people live with a herpes virus in their bodies and do not even know about it. It is only when the immune system is low and a breakout occurs when people realise.

If someone with a herpes outbreak has been touching the infected area and then touching towels or other bathroom items, then yes it is possible to catch herpes that way.
