Pope Benedict XVI was entirely different in his thoughts regarding Islam as compared to Pope John Paul II. Pope John Paul II is well known for making efforts to bridge the gulf between Christianity and Islam. He knew that it cannot be cleared out but it can be reduced. Hence he did some notable work to reduce the differences. 1 He was the first Christian to enter and pray in a Islamic Mosque. He removed his shoes before entering the Umayyad Mosque. In 2004, he hosted the Papal concert in which he tried to bring close Islamic leaders and Jewish leaders at the Vatican. Pope Benedict XVI on the other hand has been very discourteous regarding Islam. He openly calls them terrorists. At many occasions his speeches have hurt the feelings of Muslims because of his open offensive remarks. One such occasion was his lecture on 12 September 2006 in Germany. 2 He not just offends the Muslims in modern day world, he also fouls their history by making false claims which hurt the Muslims.
