How does one get traffic to their blog?

I have a blog, full of different topics that people are talking about yet no one really knows about it. How can I get people to see my blog? I have it as part of my E-mail signature, but I remove it on many emails I send.
Tip for best answer: M$0.80
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I looked at http://www.coffee-blogs.com/page1.php which you have in your profile, I could not find content, your brand or your focus.

1. Pick one topic and focus. You need to establish a blog identity and create your brand.
2. Use a standard blog format. Your current blogs currently look more like message boards.
3. Post at least one entry to your blog each day.
4. Include a visual with each post.
5. Follow blogs that complement yours and request other bloggers to guest post.
6. Comment on complementary blogs.
7. Set up a Twitter account to Tweet about your blog. One tweet per blog entry.
8. Follow sources of products that relate to your blog on Twitter, retweet the best tweets.
9. Create a Facebook fan page.
10. Become a fan on Facebook of sources of products that relate to your blog. Like and share the best posts.
11. Create corresponding YouTube and Flickr accounts. Create videos and photos related to your blog and post with links back to your blog.

Here is an example of one of the top craft blogs:

Here is a colorful crochet blog:

By far the best and easiest is to comment on other blogs within your same topic area.

1. SEO - search engine optimization.
This means getting your blog topics to the topic of google, yahoo search, and other search engines.
This can take months unless your blog gets national attention which brings me to the next point.

2. Getting your blog picked up by other websites. Send you blog out to and garner relationships with other writers, bloggers, websites that seem relevant. Make links to their pages onto your blog for cross promotion. Write to other sites that you enjoy and find out how your article, writing sample can get a mention.

3. Get you friends to write about your blog. You know a what a virile campaign is?
Its when two friends tell two friends and it mushrooms from there. Plus it can happen quite rapidly on the net these days. So, its helpful if you have a friend who is an avid blogger too.

4. Buy adspace on google or social networks like facebook. The great thing about this is that you though you spend money. You target who, how much, and when you want your ad to show.
Finally, what is your blog source? You could have listed it here on Mahalo and I could have taken a look at it and given you more detailed suggestions.

I would say create meaningful content as often as possible. Most readers enjoy getting regular content from sites they love. Give them a reason to love your site.

What do you want to be? Do you want to be a site that serves up the best links every day? Invest heavily in that. Go out and find the ten best link blogs and curate the best ones on your site. If you want to write editorial content, make an outline at the beginning of the week of five articles that you want to write. Think ahead and start writing each of these articles ahead of time and polish them to perfection before posting.

Talk to people who follow you and ask them about what they want to see in your site. Engage the people who comment on your article in conversations. What do they like about your site? What do they not like about your site? The most important thing to remember is to keep your readers happy and interested.

Hope this helps!

You already have most of the answer.

I've found with several blogs that just posting a link to your blog(s) in the signature of your forum posts will get you some hits.

What's more important than just having an interesting blog is finding people that are interested in your opinion and who actively post stuff online.

Find a forum (or many) that you can post things to and put your blog as a link in your signature, and post often.

Unless you send massive amounts of email, no one will see the link, and even fewer will care about your opinions or topics enough to read your blog and comment or start up a debate. But very active forums are full of people will fresh opinions. The hard part may just be finding the right forums (fora?), but at least it will be fun. You might enjoy debating on a forum more than posting blogs. The blogs will become a place of rest and more personal for you, where you can put your opinion on a given topic, with the benefit of the debates on a forum, so that the idea is much more thought out and clear and less biased.

If you have a blog, you may be wondering if you need to have a blog sitemap. What is a blog sitemap and what does having a blog sitemap mean for your website? A blog sitemap is a collection of links outlining the structure of your entire website. These links make it possible for your visitors to navigate quickly and easily to any section of your website as long as it is listed properly in your sitemap. The purpose of a blog sitemap is to make finding posts and pages easier by listing all of them in one place. There are a number of advantages that are associated with having a sitemap. So much so, in fact, that not having a blog sitemap is actually harmful to the productivity and functionality of your website.

So, what are the advantages associated with having a blog sitemap?

In addition to making it significantly easier for the visitors to your blog to navigate through your site, your blog sitemap is also going to make it significantly easier for search engine spiders to move through your site as well. This is going to improve the search engine optimization for your site by ensuring that every one of the pages on your site is capable of being found. This is going to increase your visibility in the search engines which in turn is going to increase the amount of traffic that your website generates.

Since most online search engines only follow a specific number of links going from a page, having your own blog sitemap is going to make sure that both visitors and search engines can access every piece of content on your website, not just some of it or most of it.

So, do you need a blog sitemap?

Whether or not you need a blog sitemap is largely going to depend on the type of website that you are running. If you do not have a lot of content yet, then a sitemap may not be necessary. On the other hand, if you are writing a blog and posting every day, as your page grows to include more content, having your own blog sitemap is going to be vitally important to the success of your site. Having a blog sitemap is going to make sure that people can find and read your content. It is going to make sure that the search engines spider and crawl your website. And when these things happen – That is when blog success happens.

So how do you get a sitemap?

If you have WordPress or Blogger, you should already be able to put up a sitemap based on plugins and code that is already set up. Otherwise, find a XML sitemap generating tool and get to work. You shouldn’t need to create your own sitemap from scratch – There are dynamic tools that can make it happen for you.

The first step to take is to search for your site how you think others will search for it and with the keywords/phrases you would like to return your page.

Update often with unique or identifiable content. Just posting changes often enough does wonders for your Google search results.

These are some tips I've read at directorysubmissions.eu on how to increase traffic to your blog.

1. One of the most common ways is by submitting it to social bookmark sites. By doing so you will gain an outright exposure and traffic fast. It is also an effective way of promoting your key terms.
2. Try to submit your website to as many high quality blog directories as possible that you can find online. This will in turn help increase your Page rank which will help get better results from google.

You can read the full article at the source.
