How does men's basketball at LSU rate?

LSU’s basketball program has had some ups and downs. At times the program has been very, very good. Most notably the team was competing in the NCAA Basketball Tournament when they had a big time center by the name of Shaquille O’Neal playing there. They also had a couple of guards who were considered cream of the crop and because of this they had some very competitive teams.
Since 1978, the LSU program has actually appeared in the NCAA tournament 17 times. Before Shaq, there was another player by the name of Pistol Pete Maravich who led the team to big wins.
More recently the program has not been so good. While they are currently 7-4 this season the team really isn’t very good and they have had problems keeping up in a tough SEC conference.
