Literature is a very useful way to explain man's perception of human existence and their thought process. Writers use literature to express their thoughts, and many authors have written numerous publications trying to decipher the meaning of life and human existence. Their books simply reflect their particular thoughts at the time.
The thought process is explained in depth when you read the literature and compare it with the time period in which it was written. For example, Homer's Iliad has a completely different thought process (and perspective on human life) than Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn.
