How does hypochondriacs/paranoids (i.e. people who aren't sick or at risk) searching for information on the flu affect Google Flu Trends?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

That's a great question. Fortunately, I don't think hypochondriacs/paranoids make up a large percentage of the population. I'm thinking in the single digits.

Paranoid personalities aren't usually focused on illness and hypochondriacs aren't typically looking up information to confirm what they have. Hypochondriacs just assume they have it and go to the doctor.

So... Short answer... Very little.
