The toxins released from the smoke cause them to deposit in the arteries. This is known as plaque formation. Due to these deposits, the arteries become narrow and are unable to supply oxygen to their fullest capacity. As a result the arteries may get blocked and cause shortage of oxygen supply to the heart, thus resulting into a heart attack. This condition is known as atherosclerosis. You will find more information at the cardiovascular network of Meridian Health.
