Most people lie. It shortcuts conversations. If you think back over your day a person will find on average 3 or more lies they told themselves.
How often do we respond to "How are you?" with "Fine, thank you." even if you're not? Lies like that are socially acceptable, even considered polite conversation. Some people don't know where do draw the line.
When the stories don't add up and it's important I bring it up. If it's not important I allow distance between us to grow.
