How do you train a dog to fetch the paper?

I'm trying to teach my dog how to fetch the paper. Any good tips? Also, would teaching her to grab a beer from the fridge be a stretch?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Start by teaching your dog basic commands, and be sure to reward your dog with treats or love. Here is another good article on teaching your dog to fetch: http://www.kidzworld.com/article/16063-teach-your-dog-to-fetch

Basically, you teach your dog to sit. Then have him sit while you throw an object. Then teach him to go get the object when you say fetch. Then, teach him how to distinguish between different objects, such as ball, stick, and paper. Soon enough, when he hears "fetch paper", he'll know which object to go get.

You can train one to fetch a beer from the fridge, here is a video of it :

I found this great article at eHow that has a great step-by-step in training your dog to do so.

(as per Mahalo guidelines, wont copy-and-paste entire article here even with quotes)
