How do you tell when ranch dressing has gone bad?

StillTasty.com says that opened, commercially-bottled ranch dressing will stay good for approximately six to nine months after you open it, provided that it remains refrigerated. The "best by" or "sell by" date is merely an estimate, and is not the hard, fast rule. You don't HAVE to chuck food just because the date has passed, because it hasn't always "gone off" on or near that date.

However: if the dressing looks or smells unusual, trash it and go buy another bottle or mix or whatever.

Look at the sell-by date, and ask yourself if you left it out more than two hours total since you've opened it. Otherwise, look for mold, smell, or separation. Two hours is the total safe room-temp limit for any food containing dairy products or meat.
