How do you successfully snake a toilet? I have a toilet snake but can't get it around the internal bend, it keeps folding back on itself.

Unless the one you have is power driven its a slow delicate process to get the snake into position. Slow pushed down the edges as much as possible, not quick jabs or forcing through the middle.
If you take it slowly you will 'feel' the clog un-break, and once its starts then you can use more force, but slow and gentle is the best way to take this.
My Dad was a builder/plumber/carpenter/etc/etc and used to spend a lot of time getting the snake into position, he said it was like an operation :P

I was able to unclog my toilet (flushed baby wipe!) with an auger like the one you have pictured. It took some patience to maneuver the snake, but once I extended/twisted it all the way and then pulled it back I had the baby wipe on the end of it and the clog was fixed.

"If none of the previous suggestions work, then set a pail under the lavatory, and remove the trap. Cover the chrome nut with a rag or tape to prevent marring by the wrench.
Loosen the thumb screw on the plumber's snake and move the handle back about 3'. Insert the snake into the drain pipe, rotate the auger, feed it in, then rotate again. By repeating this process, the snake can be driven deeply into the drain pipe to unclog the drain."

I got where I carry along a large wet vac. Sometimes two. Works good on sinks. A renter's toilet was clogged and my 25 foot snake wouldn't help.. I hooked up a wet vac to the bowl hole with a large towel to seal it. Low and behold when the rumbling was over I find near a whole load of toilet paper had clogged it but there was no roller tube. Go figger what?
that sounds inventive :)
Thanks for the tip, turns out a plastic toilet brush hd been jammed down the toilet, trying to plunge it only pushed it further in. A real plumber couldn't get it out either and we ended up replacing the toilet.
wow, what a drama... I did wonder if you managed to clear it out yourself :)
I've had lego blocks down a drain once but never a whole brush!
