How do you smooth things over with a friend you got very angry at because of a misunderstanding?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

If a friendship is worth fixing, it's worth swallowing your pride and going to them with openness, humility, and respect. I would say go to them and explain how things seemed from your perspective, apologize for the misunderstanding, and ask that you please move forward because they are very important to you. Apologize for risking the friendship without trying to clear the air first.

Friends deserve the chance to explain themselves and talk openly before it reaches the stage of being a fight. If you didn't grant a friend that right, you owe them an apology. If they didn't grant you that right, while they do owe you an apology, you should also be able to forgive them, if they're really your friend.

If I have an argument with a good friend, I admit that I have to boil for a little while before I can cool off enough to think about it. I then really think about it and try to determine if the misunderstanding was big enough to not talk to my friend anymore. Then I usually talk it through, gently, with my friend and usually things will soothe over eventually. :-)

Talking it through. Trying to smooth things over only masks what could be an underlying cause of your argument. But If you sit and talk through what happened, you will be able to better handle these types of issues later.
