how do you say
"How do I get to the youth hostel?"

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I can just sense @unwirklich coming to answer this question. ;)

If she doesn't, or if you can't seem to remember all the words to the sentence you want to ask, please do not be afraid to say "Jugendherberge?" and point around and look lost. That's "youth hostel" in German, and it's pronounced "yoo-gend-heh-uh-bayr-guh" (roughly). Germans are all about compound words ("Jugend" = "youth" and "herberge" = "hostel").

Just a bit of travel advice I thought I'd offer, if that's why you're asking this question. Many people go abroad expecting themselves to spout grammatically correct sentences from the get-go, and you just can't expect that from yourself. It's perfectly acceptable to "speak in nouns" (meaning, to mention the main noun like "Jugendherberge," point around a bit, and raise your eyebrows questioningly). This is more than enough to get you where you need to go, and you can have someone draw you a map (hold out a pen and paper, and say "Karte?" or "map?" which is pronounced "kah-tuh"). Build your vocabulary like a baby, and from there it just gets easier. :)

Translated through German from several sites, the following are answers to your question.

Wie bekomme ich die Jugend Herberge

Wie erhalte ich zur Jugendherberge

Hope this helped!

Specially when translating German which is prone to wrong interpretations due to the complexity of the language.

Please do not use automatic online translators. They are very unreliable and often translate too literally.
