How do you record video from AV inputs in Windows Media Center (the Windows 7 version) when you have no remote?
I recently got a TV tuner card for my computer. It happens to have composite inputs, which I would like to use to record video from a VCR so that I can make DVD's from VHS's. I wanted to use Media Center, (I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium) but it only supports recording a set top box through AV inputs, and when doing so, requires that a remote that I don't have be present.
Is there any way I can record video from my composite inputs without purchasing additional software?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is a case of using (or trying) the wrong application for the task.
Download and use either\and Windows Live Movie Maker and Movie Maker 2.6 from the microsoft download site here http://download.live.com/moviemaker
for live
and here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d6ba5972-328e-4df7-8f9d-068fc0f80cfc&DisplayLang=en
for MM2.6
Note:They are free!!

As an aside Windows media Center is really designed to be used with a remote and maximizes the 'experience'. I dont know if you have looked at remotes but here is a link to one that I have that is really cool (imho) Note it has scroll buttons, a roller ball\track ball along with left and right mouse buttons that replaces a mouse and can be used in 'normal' windows also. It works with RF, using a USB receiver, not infrared so can be used through walls too! It has all the common media center buttons, inc the 'green' button (start MC) and is Windows 7 compatible. Well worth the money in my opinion. (I also have the RF keyboard with built in touch pad and media buttons)

I have tried the Video Acquire Wizard, and have found that it does not detect my card, or it is not made to such devices. Either way, it only shows my scanner as an input device.
My tuner card is perfectly fine. In fact, its bran spankin' new, and I don't see any problem with it.
I never said I don't want additional software. If you know something that works, I'll download it and try it. Already, I've tried 4 different versions of Movie Maker and a few apps I found using Google, none of which seemed to work correctly for my purposes.
I can understand (somewhat) if WMC doesn't work properly with no remote because it will not receive input from my mouse or keyboard. However, the fact that it demands a remote for the sole purpose of demanding a remote makes me somewhat angry. I know for an absolute fact that there is no reason it can't do what I need it to do.
And finally, if you are having success with things I am not, have you ever considered telling me the procedure you used? Perhaps I am missing something. Its entirely possible.
Thank you for your time and I'm sorry you found my comment so offensive.
And have you tried Video Acquire Wizard in the Windows Live Suite?
Have you ever considered your tuner card is not up to par?
Have you ever considered using the CORRECT software for the job? (Oh no YOU dont want additional software)
Have you ever considered using the correct hardware for the job? If you don't want to use the correct hardware, don't use the software! WMC is DESIGNED to be used with a remote! WMC is NOT stubborn, stubbornness is a human trait, a MACHINE or piece of software CANNOT be stubborn (What does that suggest?)
A 'thank you anyway' would have been polite!
Oh and P.s. I have just done a quick transfer and capture through MY 'composite in' port (I could\should have used SVHS for better quality) on my HTPC (Custom\Self built) running Win7, so it is YOUR equipment and\or your lack of skill using it!
Good-day to you!
Windows Movie Maker 2.6 and (the ones that natively support Windows 7) do not support video capture. Windows Movie Maker 6 (ships with Vista) does not support capture from AV inputs. Windows Movie Maker 2.1 (ships with XP) does not interact correctly with my tuner.
Also, I refuse to buy a remote just because Windows Media Center is stubborn. I don't like stubborn software.
