How do you rate TABLET PC's handwriting recognition abilities ? Any limitations?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I've been using a tablet and Microsoft's Tablet OS (XP and Vista for Tablets) for 5-8 years now. It does pretty well recognizing my "doctor's handwriting" pretty well. I have to take notes for my profession, and it does a good job.

I've found out, though, that I don't always have to convert. Sometimes I just leave the handwritten notes (using MS OneNote) in their raw form.

But then you can't search them? Correct?

I currently use an Asus R1F with Microsoft Vista for business. Like Dr. Matt, I truly believe that part of the magic of using a Tablet is to use Microsoft One Note with it. In my line of work where I'm constantly handwriting and drawing out thoughts, it's very useful. I like the ability to then send a handwritten note to my colleabues when I'm done. A good site to check out is http://www.tabletpcreview.com They have a lot of good information and an active forum there.
