How do you protect your eyes when using the computer

I spend almost 11 hours per day in front of the computer. So far, I don't have any problems in my eye sight. But, I am afraid that it will affect my eyes in the future. How can I protect my eyes when using the computer?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi there @mahaazar. I've been asking myself the same thing recently! @jillbeth made some good points. Believe it or not there are actually 'special' eyedrops formulated for "computer relief". It could just be a marketing gimmick, but you can always check them out if you're willing to try anything.

I've also been looking into getting a pair of Gunnar eyeglasses. Gunnar is a brand of eyeware that, again, claims to be 'specially' designed to protect your eyes from glare/use of extended computer exposure. They get generally good reviews on Amazon - which often runs pretty big special on them. They retail for about $100 a pair but sometimes they go down to $55 on Amazon.

I take a break about every 20 minutes to get up and walk away from the computer so my body gets some exercise and my eyes don't get strained. I work from home, so I'll go throw a load of laundry in the washer or some short task and then get back to work. Even if you don't get up, it helps to look away from the computer once in a while and just gaze around the room so your eyes get a break.

Anybody who sits for long periods of time in front of the computer at work every day has doubtless experienced some pain in the eyes, and negative results on their sight..

http://www.articlesbase.com/vision-articles/protect-your-eyes-when-using-the-computer-1242552.html

started to experience a marginally distressing burning feeling in my eyes when using the computer ; my eyes felt dry and itchy ; I could feel debris moving around in my eye socket, next to and in back of my eyeballs ; and I began seeing some eye "floaters", which are dark dots that float around in your vision
, as well as some black shadows and occasionallight flashes when I moved my eyes.

Eye strain (from the computer) stems from prolonged focusing at a fixed distance.

About every 5-10 minutes, look at a distant object across the room, or better out a window at something outside.

I set up my computer so all I have to do is look above or to the side of the computer to see beyond, without alot of head turning.

Keep the screen at eye level, and arms should be level with the ground (wrists not touching or resting on the desk)
