How do you organize your coupons? Please be as detailed as possible. I'm new to this and need help! It is overwhelming!

I have a binder with baseball card pocket inserts and all my coupons sorted by product type. Do you only put identical coupons together in a slot or do you put each brand in one slot? Like I have 10 coupons for kelloggs cereals. Does each coupon get put in its own slot, or do you put all kelloggs coupons together?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would suggest you put all coupons for one product in one slot by order of expiry so you will be aware of the soon to expire coupons. To make your life easier if you really want to keep track of your coupons and you know how to use microsoft excel, you can list all your coupons with their expiry dates on a spreadsheet and organize them this way:

Product / Brand / Expiry Date:
Example:

Cereals / Kelloggs / Sept 2011
Cereals / Kelloggs / October 2011
etc.

For me it's easier to place coupons in an accordion file and use tabs at the top to organize. By setting up the folder according to how to the flow of how you shop your grocery store, (i.e. produce, dairy, meats, canned vegs, canned meats, etc.) I don't separate by brands but this is just what works best for me.

I would put the identical coupons together. I think if you do it by brand, you'll end up hiding coupons for other Kellogs' cereals behind the duplicates you've got.

I tend to organize first by product type, and then by expiration date and (when relevant) store. Using your example of Kelloggs cereal, I would group them together by month of expiration and then separate them out so that if some coupons are only useful at a place like Sam's Club while others are only useful at Safeway, I can quickly identify which is which. I also would include a small piece of paper or a post it note on top of the coupons with basic information, so that you spend less time sorting through them to determine precisely when their expiration dates are or what store they are valid for.
