How do you make new friends?

I moved to a new city 3 years ago. I had a few friends but they have all moved back to the hometown. I find myself with very few friends and mostly hang out with my coworkers, who are older and have a lot of family commitments.

How do you meet new friends in a new city?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

More often than no you dont make friends and people become friends of yours.
Where do you want to make friends

In your college?
In your office?
In your locality?
with in your relatives.
Or making friends Online in social networking sites?

Each of them has there own ways of doing it.

Mostly you have very very few frineds in your life you stays as friends whole of your life,
there are friends you just say hello and Hi kind, its like you just know them
There are friends you go out with them, share your feelings and its once you trust them.

to build trust it takes time, unless you know each other well its hard to build trust.

To make good friendship to long laster there needs to be some common ground between
two individuals that is common hobbies, interests, culture, work though not necessary
the most of your friends who stay longer are from your school/college as you meet
them daily and interactions will grow your friendship.

so you need to start interacting with people with whom you want to make friends
or get there attention by doing things that you feel can make he/her to talk with you.

Places where I make friends:
1. The gym
2. The library and bookstore
3. The supermarket.
4. My favorite store.
5. The laundromat

I think it all depends the places you visit and your personality. I would recommend when you do things, try to follow a routine so you can see the same people all the time. Then talk to them. If they are friendly, be friendly and keep talking. If they are rude, forget about them and try to talk to someone else.

The dog thing seems gimmicky, but it IS a great idea! People are more comfortable approaching you with an 'ice-breaking' dog.
Just be friendly and approachable. If you're in any clubs or anything, go to the social events, because you'll already have something in common to talk about. Be sure to get out there. No one can be your friend if they don't know you exist!

No matter what, you can not afford NOT to use the word "HELLO" .
So, start making friends by saying hello.

You can meet people at a park. And if you have a dog it will make people want to say hi and talk about your dog then you can let them know you just moved to town and you hope to meet some nice people to make friends with.
