How do you make homemade rice milk?

Our family cannot eat gluten or casein so we need a substitute for milk. Also, a member of our family is allergic to almonds and two are allergic to soy. Rice milk seems to be our only substitute and we would like to find an affordable way to make it.

Rice Milk Recipe

Gather the items you will need: Blender or Food Processor, Strainer, Cheesecloth, Strainer,4 cups White Rice, and Vanilla Beans or Vanilla extract.

In a pot boil the 4 cups of white rice with the 4 cups of water. If you are using vanilla beans boil them together with the rice. Simmer for 30 to 40 minutes until soft.

Let the rice cool down. Remove the vanilla beans. Pleace the rice in the blender or food processor. Blend it until smooth and let it sit for one hour.

Pour mixture in to cheesecloth lined strainer and let it drain for 20 minutes.

Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla if not already added vanilla bean. Add honey to sweeten. Add water to desired thinness, put in closed container and refridgerate.

I've never actually made it. But, it sounds good. I googled "Rice Milk Recipe" and obtained a recipe off the web site wwwehow.com. Maybe try coconut milk from the grocery store or a specialized rice milk maker if this doesn't work. Macy's has a good culinary section at their department store, and they might have a Rice Milk maker or know where to order one.
