How do you make an herbal butter that can be placed on charbroiled steak?

In German restaurants, they sometimes serve a type of herbal butter that is used to top off a freshly grilled steak and will melt from the heat, leaving behind a savory, buttery flavor that tenderizes the meat and adds richness to the overall taste. From what I could tell, the butter contained garlic, parsley and possibly chives, but I am looking for the complete recipe to achieve a similar taste. Is anybody familiar with recipes for herbal butter?

There are many variations to herb butters.
I personally use this one for many different things.Fish, steak and chicken.

Take one stick of butter and let it soften to room temp.
Meanwhile,Take two cloves of garlic and either fine chop them or grate them with a microplane,
1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped fine
1/4 cup basil chopped fine
3 tablespoons fresh chopped Thyme
1/4 cup chopped chives.

Take all the ingredients and mix them well.form the butter into a sausage shape in plastic wrap,Chill in the fridge so it firms back up.
Be sure to make this way ahead of time.It will give the flavors time to meld and make it much tastier. you can then slice it into little disks and put on anything from fish to garlic bread.YUMMMYY!!!

There are a few good recipes but these are the ones that we make at home. My husband is a professional cook and he and my daughter use these family recipes.

1 stick of real salted butter
1-tablespoon of:
Extra fine chopped fresh Italian parsley this is the common base

Then depending on what we want he makes

Garlic herbed butter
1 clove finely diced and blotted mixed into softened butter.
By blotting the garlic you avoid some nasty bitterness.

Basil (pesto) herbed butter
1-2 leves finely chopped and mixed in to softened butter

Worchestershire butter
A few sprinkles mixed into softened butter then well then chilled

Ranch Butter
Sprinkle 1 teaspoon Hidden Valley powder into softened butter and chill

Zesty Italian
Sprinkle Zesty Italian powder into softened butter and chill

Lemon butter
Grate just a smidgen zest of lemon, and add just a bit and a few drops of lemon mixed into butter and mix very well. Chill immediately

Paprika butter
1/3 teaspoon fresh Hungarian paprika to 1 stick if room temp butter. Mix well, add a turn of fresh black pepper and mix again.
Chive herbed butter mix in 2 teaspoons of fresh chives finely diced.

Also remember you can use all of these with cream cheese too.

We kept these really simple because no one in our house likes fresh thyme or sage.
