How do you litter train an Alsatian dog?
My sister has three dogs; a bulldog, a Chihuahua and an Alsatian dog. She always makes sure that her dogs are house trained to use the litter box. She had a huge success with her two little dogs, but it has been a serious battle with her big Alsatian buddy. The dog just finds it difficult to hold its bladder; she has tried changing the litter box on several occasions but all to no avail. Is there a special trick used in house training Alsatian dogs to use the litter box?

I am not certain of any special tricks to litter box train specifically anAlsatian dog, and it sounds like your sister does have experience in litter training. Every dog is different though, just like children. Some dogs take a bit longer to learn and some catch on quicker. In litter box training a dog there are a few things to keep in mind. First you want to make sure there are not any areas in the house that smell like urine, for example, a spot on the carpeting the dog previously had an accident at. That can cause a dog to return there to potty. Secondly, maybe she should go back to square one with the dog and start litter training from the beginning. Just like potty training a child, the first few days you must be right there ready to tell your dog "NO" firmly and bringing him to the litter box, over and over if need be. The key is consistency. Maybe she assumed this dog would learn quick from the other two and maybe he just needs a couple days of total her attention with this.
