How do you keep up with new music? What are some of your favorite indie bands?
How do you keep up to date with bands and artists? Sure I can check out youtube and myspace and things like that, but where do I find the bands I should be listening to without wasting a ton of time looking for them?
Also, who are some of your favorite bands that you think I should give a listen to?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

that combined with using pandora.com which will throw some smaller bands in every now an then amongst the more popular ones in your created stations it is prety easy to stay in touch with what is what
then there is always xm/sirus satellite radio
i check purevolume.com once a week at least and listen to pandora and xm/sirus everyday and i fancy myself to be quite in the know with music.
rarely is there ever a band someone suggests that i haven't already heard of and listened to, and i don't spend any time researching new bands or anything i just casually listen and check purevolume so that's what i recommend doing.
pandora is a site where you create your own radio stations by submitting artists and songs you like and it compiles a station of music similar to what you input
xm radio has quite a few channels and they are pretty good about not playing only the radio hits, they vary up there playlists pretty good
and purevolume is like a myspace for bands only more professional and generally the bands on the home page are good, the feedback system they have is great for separating generic crap from decent original groups
also a couple bands i am currently listening to are: Band of Horses, Tegan and Sara, Chairlift, Herman's Hermits, As I Lay Dying, Buddy Holly, and Four Year Strong
i am a sucker for everything pandora is my best friend though, i have a station for classical with beethoven and mozart a station for the beatles and other oldies a station for enya a station for indie and alternative punk a station for metal etc.
but in general people tell me i have pretty good taste in music and often bring their questions about music to me so for whatever it's worth the bands i listed are all pretty good of course none of them are really indie anymore, they are all pretty big now(except the oldies)

M$I also use Last.fm to see what other people with similar taste are listening to.
Another source that I find useful is pitchforkmedia.com and pitchfork.tv they have lots of reviews of new indie records and I find it to be a good filter of everything that is out there.
Some of my favorite bands at the moment:
Animal Collective (new record is amaaaaazing!)
Sigur Ros
Band of Horses
Panda Bear
Sufjan Stevens
!!! (chk chk chk)
Arcade Fire
Wolf Parade
... and a few more

M$My favorite indie bands are (for now):
Los Campesinos
Crystal Castles
Fuck Buttons
Clinic
The Do
Explosions in the Sky
Flying Saucer Attack
Gingerbread Patriots
Oxygen_st4r (free!)
Kimya Dawson
Julia Nunes
Tom Milsom
Sufjan Stevens
Sigur Ros
Soulwax
Note that the term Indie is not easily defined. I interpreted it as 'probably not known by the moms of the world'.
