How do you get rid of writer's block?

Tip for best answer: M$1.55
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You write. In order to break a block on something you are writing you write more. At least that's what works for me. If I can't write what I need to do at the given moment I move to something else and come back to the paragraph, page or task that is locking me up. I find a way to be productive in writing and move back to the tough one after a success on something else. If you cant afford that time away from the project, try outlining, note writing or listening to an energizing music to get you remotivated.

I agree that getting away from what is blocking your mind seems to "unlock" your brain.

Luckily I do mostly non-fiction articles for the internet. The topics vary so much that if I suddenly cannot complete one article, I can leave it and go to another totally different one. Once that latter one is completed, go back to the other one, and often your mind has cleared.

I also find that if I am just too tired or "blocked" to do the creative part of writing the article, I will do research for one or two other articles that are due shortly. That not only gives me something productive to do, but then I have a major step completed for the next writing that has to be done.

I am also a morning person and know I do much better in the early hours of the day, so I try to get to my writing as quickly as possible as soon as I get up.

When I have writer's block, I have to get away with it and do something mundane. Sometimes I will go cut the grass, sometimes I will do a load of laundry. Anything to keep me busy. I find that the mundane tasks keep my hands busy but for some reason my brain starts moving. It helps me to restructure my thought processes. Then before I know it the block is lifted and my creative juices start flowing again. I find that my writer's block is caused by fatigue, so by getting away from it for a few minutes really helps.
