How do you get rid of a bird in a tree/bush outside of my office?

Yesterday at work there was this bird who was chirping nonstop for hours right outside of my window. I am a therapist so I need it as quiet as possible in my office to not disrupt our therapy sessions. It was so frustrating and annoying. I think it was in a tree up pretty high. I don't know what to do if it is still there next week. I could not concentrate at all with it chirping nonstop. I already have a fan in my office so adding more noise probably won't help block it out because that didn't seem helpful.

Any suggestions to get rid of this bird? Are there ways to make a bird not want to live somewhere?

Falconry would quiet him down nicely. Just the sight of a soaring falcon will send the little song birds into quiet hiding.

Joking aside, it might quiet down if it sees a "predator". This can be accomplished by putting a plastic hawk, owl or possibly even a rubber snake in or near the preferred bush. You can also purchase a hawk silhouette to hang above the tree and it moves around to help scare away prey species:
http://www.amazon.com/Fly-DS5012-Hawk-Silhouette/dp/B0001IMLLM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1252728236&sr=8-2

If it's a local resident, sooner or later it will quickly get used to the fake item and might even perch on it. Thus, you may need to periodically relocate it or take it away and then put it back out so that all the annoying birds to get used to it as fast. If it's just a visitor, it might decide to move on and chirp elsewhere.

If you get a breeze in your area, tying a flashy sparkling bit of ribbon in the bush might do the trick for a while, as the movement will irritate or scare most nearby birds. There's a product called Irri-Tape (great name!) designed for this purpose:
http://www.amazon.com/Bird-X-TAPE-25-Irri-Tape-Repellent-Ribbon/dp/B000KGYXGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1252728451&sr=8-1

You can even tie a helium balloon to the bush and let the movement scare away timid birds for a while, and they even make owl eyed balloons specifically for this purpose:
http://www.amazon.com/Bird-X-SE-Y-Scare-Balloon-Yellow/dp/B000RUI87A/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1252728451&sr=8-8

If you are motivated enough to mess with unpleasant sticky goo, you can use Tanglefoot to make the branches unpleasant for the bird to perch on:
http://www.amazon.com/Tanglefoot-97020-5-1-Bird-Repellent/dp/B0019XWYJW/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1252728451&sr=8-15

They also make expensive sonic annoyance devices to drive away birds, but if the bush is near your window one of these is as likely to annoy you as it is the bird you are trying to get rid of:
http://www.amazon.com/Bird-Gone-Chase-Super-MMIB50/dp/B0016ALIFO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1252728451&sr=8-4

I personally would start with the Irri-Tape or a balloon, as prey species hate it when big things move around unpredictably. These are also less offensive to other creatures than the Tanglefoot goo, and cheaper and less annoying than the noise maker.

It's hard to tell you which of these will work best without knowing more about the bird in question, but these should give you a good start on quieting him down or scaring her away.

It's kind of funny, but there is a whole niche industry dedicated to getting rid of birds. Professional Falconry experts will bring predatory birds to scare away seagulls from landfills. Devices that shoot blanks into the air at random intervals are used by farmers and land fills. You'd be surprised at how desperate certain people and industries are to keep away birds.

Thanks. I just wish I would have seen the typos before the 1hr edit window closed. I hate seeing the goofy errors and not being able to go back and fix them.

The best way to get rid of the birds chirping non-stop for hours outside of your window is to cut down the tree where they hangout.

Perhaps you could get an outdoor cat? I'm not sure where your office is, but cats are a natural bird deterent, though it may not work at all if the cat doesn't feel the inclination to stalk things. And being high in a tree the cat may figure there's no way he's working that hard for a snack.

Was your window closed and you still heard it? Or would closing the window work?

Maybe you could use some white noise in the background, like a cd of Mozart or the ocean waves. But that may have seagulls in it. My mom likes sounds of the rain forest. But again, more birds.

I'm sorry I can't help you more, but I live in the country and birds are soothing to me.

Careful, some birds are protected under the juristiction of the Department of Interior. If your not sure, contact your state wildlife agency. You have already broadcast your desire to remove the creature, make sure you CYA....you know. I had a simular problem while building a courthouse, the DOI had the bird removed.....Cost me nothing and I have a clear concious....A bird is such a small thing, but even the death of plankton could cause a breakdown in the food chain....sound like a tree hugger eh?

Im sure a bird isnt going to want to stay within 100sq feet of your office if you fire a couple of bb's at it. Its time to pay Wal-Mart a visit.
