It was predicted by pretty much everybody that the Republicans would take control of the House of Representatives. The question everybody is asking is, now what? Even before the election was finished, it was clear the president would not have the support for cap and trade legislation after the November elections. Democrats have enjoyed the majority of House and Senate, with popularity in both branches at abysmal levels.
I think that you can expect at the very least a vigorous attack of the Democrat agenda starting with the recently passed heathcare overhaul legislation. Dozens of states have already sued the federal government to block the enactment that begins in January 2011. Tax breaks for the rich enacted under the Bush administration will continue, as well as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Gridlock on a number of other contentious issues can be expected as the Democrats slump into the 2012 elections, wounded and confused.
