How do you feel about lawyers?

Tip for best answer: M$0.50
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Well... they make great jokes.

Here's my favorite!

It's called "The Kind Hearted Lawyer"

One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw two men along the roadside eating grass.
Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop, and he got out to investigate.
He asked one man, 'Why are you eating grass?'
We don't have any money for food,' the poor man replied.
'We have to eat grass.'
Well then, you can come with me to my house, and I'll feed you,' the lawyer said.
'But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree.'
'Bring them along,' the lawyer replied.
Turning to the other poor man he stated, 'You come with us, also.'
The second man, in a pitiful voice, then said, 'But sir, I also have a wife and SIX children with me.'
'Bring them all, as well,' the lawyer answered.
They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine was.
Once underway, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said,
'Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.'
The lawyer replied, 'Glad to do it. You'll really love my place.
The grass is almost a foot high.'

Well as maligned as they may be as money-grubbing and evil, they perform a necessary function of society. Maybe I'm thinking more of a barrister or public defender, or someone with an altruistic motive like helping the poor by doing pro bono work or protecting the environment or the representing the oppressed, but America is glutted with lawyers anyway.

If you will look for the people who works to lie, they are lawyers. No offense meant but I'm correct right? They have to do anything to make their client appear innocent in the eyes of justice.

I have nothing against them, it's their job anyway... I admire them somehow for being courageous. Because their life is sometimes at risk because of their job.

The first thing I think of is the old adage/joke/fantasy that goes something like this: "What do you call 1,000,000 lawyers at the bottom of the sea?"

..."A good start".

This is of course, until you NEED a lawyer, for whatever reason. At this point depending on the quality of legal services you receive (as well as your specific needs) you could quickly LOVE your lawyer (platonically of course) and they can really help you out.

So knee jerk reaction, bad, once you are in trouble, or need legal assistance, and if you find someone you can work well with, PRICELESS.

Thanks

There are so many types of lawyers that the question becomes hard to answer. I've dealt with both the conniving, sneaky kind and the very helpful, caring kind. They are, after all, people, and people come in all different temperaments and moralities as well.

Overall, I feel rather benign about lawyers. They are a necessary thing in modern, western society and the majority of people will have to deal with one at some point in their life. As a whole, and when dealing with generalizations, I think lawyers get a bad rap.

In my opinion there are like lawn mowers, a necessary evil.

But they do make good jokes.

An Engineer passed away one day and went to the perley gates and his name was not in the book.

So down south he went. After a while of being there he started to design things to help out. Air conditioning, escalaters and a lot of other stuff.

The Devil was talking to God one day and was telling him about the Engineer and his help.

God said wait a minute we made a mistake, you have to send him up to me.

The Devil said no I won't. God said if you don't send him up to me I will sue you.

The Devil just started laughing, God said what's so funny?

The Devil said where are you gonna get a Lawyer?
